How to get rid of fleas with multiple dogs in the house?
-
we have three dogs in the house and a year ago we got fleas from our nieghbors, now they have moved away and we still have fleas, we have tryed everything in our power to get rid of the fleas but we have recently developed a financial problem so we cant take the dogs to a vet because the only vet near by is extremly expesnive, and now on top of it all the dogs are now chewing hair off there bodys, we have tryed everyting we can think of like giving all the dogs a bath and bug bombing the house nothing is working so if anyone can help us on how to get rid of the felas or how to make the dogs hair grow back faster it would be very helpful, thankyou.

Answer:
I have 7 dogs in the house and they never have fleas. Key is PREVENTION, and that means a good, name brand topical liquid like Advantix or Frontline Plus applied to each dog every single month. Once you have fleas in the house, you need to wash all bedding, vacuum rugs and sofas and throw the bag out. If there's a lot of infestation, you need to bomb your house and put down a flea killing chemical in the yard. Not all vets are expensive, so find one and get a pill called Capstar for each of your dogs - that gets the fleas off within an hour. Shampoo the dogs, let dry, apply Frontline Plus or Advantix --- and apply it every month. It's a lot easier to prevent fleas then eradicate them, will take about 3 months now to break the cycle and you MUST eradicate the fleas in your house as well. Your poor dogs now have flea dermatitis and absolutely need to be de-flead. Get that Capstar from a vet, put a good preventative on them every single month. There is NO reason for dogs to suffer with fleas these days, the monthly preventatives work well and are safe. Don't bother with cheap off brand like harz or capstar, they don't work and they can harm your dogs. Flea powders, collars, shampoos, etc. do NOT WORK, they kill a few fleas, the eggs and larvae hatch and your dog is infested again. This is NOT the place to try to save money, unless you like living with fleas and watching your dogs suffer.

Go to your local petco/petsmart. See if they have the topical drops or call your vet and see how much they will charge for 3 capstar pills. Also call your local pest control and see how much they will charge to treat your home and yard.

You need to treat your yard. Treat the dogs, house, and yard for a few months. Those expensive flea drops for dogs work well. We had a flea problem and it took something like 3 months to get rid of them. Even with flea drops, but the drops work by putting it on the dog's back. They absorb through the skin, into the blood. The fkeas bite and die shortly after. We still had eggs and fleqs hatchinh, which is why it took so long. We also have rabbits come through the yard and drop flea eggs all the time. My dogs sometimes pick them up and they hatch in the house, which is another reason. We have a 3 month supply left of advantage. I will use it up and then start putting essentual oils on the dogs as flea repellents. The flea drops are ppison. That's why I don't want to use them permanently.

This is the easiest and cheapest way to rid your home and dogs of fleas. Buy enough flea bombs for the square footage of your home (make sure you know it). Get Biospot (the least expensive of the topicals that actually works) enough for your three dogs and their weights. Get your dogs out of the house, bomb it, wait the length of time the bomb says is needed, apply the topical to your three dogs and that should take care of any fleas. You will need to re-bomb the house in 14 days to get rid of the fleas hatching from the eggs, but it won't be necessary to re-apply the topical to the dogs as Biospot works for a month.

Well, first of all...Good Luck! I used to live in FL and had a lot of problems with fleas. Since we moved to AZ our animals have been flea free! Aside from moving... the best advice I can give it to stay on top of the situation! Vacuum everyday with maybe a flea powder. Bathe the dogs weekly and use Flea dip as often as you can. We used to use Seven Dust in the yard as well. Again...Good luck!

Call a humane society or animal rescue and ask them iif they can reccomend any low cost vets. The best flea medications are only available from a vet.

The drops from the vet (like Advantage) - the ones from the store just don't do the job.
