The cause can be many many things he could doing it as a act of revenge cause he wants to be with the people. Are you letting him out before bed? are you feeding them then not waiting atleast a hour before you go to bed so see if he needs to go? He could not like being alone so it does it to get "revenge" on you. Dogs also see blue and green and black and white so if you have a green rug the dog could be thinking that it a a patch of grass and it is ok to go there. Or it could be just placing its scent in the house when I dog poops they release this smell that only other dogs/animals can detect saying "My area get out" however you say no to all these maybe you should get him checked out by the vet as he could have a problem

Crate training is awesome. You can tell if he can hold it during the night because they don't want to get their bedding wet. At a year old he should be able to. It could be that he doesn't respect you and the area. If he's caught peeing or pooping get upset and put him in time out in the kennel for a bit. Take him outside again like a puppy on a leash and when he pees/poops give him a treat and praise. Bonding and time should help. Some dogs act like pups for 2-3 years I heard.

cause you havent properly potty trained the dog potty schedual and food schedual that will help when i had my dog inside she used to do the same thing but because i did those two stuff she stoped but now she is an outside dog so doesnt matter but just do those things it helps.

A small dog can't usually hold pee for over 3 hours when awake. Same for the poop. You need to walk him before he gets to sleep at night, to empty him out. It sounds like it's just a case of his not being able to hold it long enough to do it in the morning. Just putting him in the crate/cage won't stop a dog who has to pee bad. It will happen when the dog just can't hold it any longer. No sense getting upset at him.

go back to housebreaking 101...your dog should be crated at all times when you are not physically watching him....

1) Best idea would be to confine him to his sleeping quarters. Dogs seldom dirty their sleeping area- so he will whine and be restless. Leash him and take him out. If he pees/poops then no probs- let him be free and happy but if he does not - confine him again and let him whine again - take him out again and repeat this till he pees. Very tiresome but in a few days he will get the idea. 2) You could lock him up in the garden until he poops or pees. I mean tie him up. When he poops/pees - you could release him. This will give him a routine.
