My shih tzu has CLEAR ear discharge in her right ear... help?
-
Okay so yes I will take her to the vet if need be, I always do but I just got laid off and we've had several family money emergencies and I basically if not fully broke right now. I just wanted to put that out there before I ask this question because if it is serious - of course I will take her in, but if it's not a huge deal and it may clear up on its own, I'd like some input before I blow $70 that I really can't spend right now on a vet visit and so many people just yell at you to take them to the vet on here when you are asking for input and advice. Anyhow :), now that that is out of the way. I have a 3 year old shih tzu who I noticed last night had an eraser size amount of CLEAR discharge in her right ear. The ear isn't red, she's not itching it, she doesn't have mites, and the ear doesn't have any odor. She HAS had an ear infection before but when she had that one her ear was BRIGHT red with like a yellow discharge and she was itching it like crazy. We took her to the vet, they gave us otomax drops and we used those and her infection cleared up in about a week. Well last night I noticed the clear discharge so I went ahead and put otomax (I have about half a bottle left and its still good) drops in both ears. She is acting fine and the discharge SEEMS to be gone... what do you all think? Should I keep applying the drops? If you think it is imperative that we go to the vet - please offer some other constructive help on what you might think it is... please don't just write "Go to the vet" because obviously if I need to - I will, I am just using this as a sounding board to see if anyone else has had a similar experience, etc. THANKS! :)

I'm not sure if you can get Otomax without a prescription but I would go to K V Vet Supply to find out, http://www.kvvet.com. This would be good to know if you need more either now or in the future. I would also telephone my vet, tell him or her about the clear discharge, lack of odor, etc, tell the vet I had some Otomax left over and see what he or she said. I would be very clear about not being able to bring the dog in unless it was very necessary. Most vets understand that we are in economic hard times and will try to help you as much as possible over the phone.
your vet will work out a payment plan.and he is the best to answer your questions. try calling maybe he can give you advice over the phone.
