How Easy Is It To Train A Golden Labrador Puppy?
-
soon im getting a golden labrador puppy and ive read a few books and internet pages about it and the reason i put a golden lab is because on one of the internet sites someone said they have a different nature and that stuff to black or chocolate anyway i am hoping to keep it inside because we have another dog outside but its very aggressive and i don't wont it to bark all night and that stuff so i was wondering if anyone knew how or if there is an easy way to train my puppy to be toilet trained and not bark all the time and i don't wont to take it to doggy schools and that sort of thing

Answer:
Any training of dogs/puppies is going to take time, patience and consistency! Positive reinforcement of good behavior, exercise and time with you all go a long way toward what ever method of training you select. It has been our experience that aggression come from lack of socialization and the dog is generally responding to people it is not familiar with. So if you want your dog to be friendly around people you need to take him/her on walks around people (on a leash or at an enclosed dog park). This does not mean that if someone comes to the house the dog won't bark and let you know someone is there but generally will settle down once you know. As far a housebreaking there all types of methods. Dogs go by scents and once an area is soiled if you don't want them to do their business there, clean it well. The old school way of rubbing their nose in it after the fact just scares them of you, they won't understand. Praise them when they go where they should, on the paper, outside, etc. Also dogs don't like to go where they lay down. So when you are away they need area to stand up lay down, turn around, but don't give them a great space. Also remember until 6 months (average) they can't "hold it" for long periods and it is a short distance from one end to the other. Anyway if you build your relationship with the lab and exercise with the lab you and your dog will understand each other, but don't expect it to be an overnight solution!

Labs come YELLOW,not "golden" ! Color means NOTHING in terms of temperament!
UNREPENTANT RECIDIVIST :-P
Do you mean a Yellow Lab or a Golden Ret/ Lab mix? Either should be very easy to train. I adopted a Choc field bred dog and he trained faster then fast and was a great dog. The 3 colors do not have much difference in temperament anymore as the colors are fixed in the gene pool. You housebreak all dogs the same way and if a dog is not bored and has enough exercise it won't bark.

it is very ez to train labs and it all depends on the owner that's training the dog. like i had a Chocolate lab that died a wail ago and it was very ez to train the dog if u have a large space to train him because wen i train my lab i trained it in a big and coming space and it was ez to train him.trust me i know i had one.

I have had a lab since she was 7 weeks old.. she chewed everything but you have to enforce rule early like: don't jump up, don't go on the sofa those sorts of rules. Rules/tricks like sit, stay, walk to heel all come when they are old enough to respond to their name. Make sure you have a good lead and collar and it might be a good idea to take them to a puppy training school for a few weeks until she/he gets the idea and then just use to garden to teach simple rules. Teaching not to bark is a hard one because they do it naturally and most labs wont bark that much anyway and toilet training is quite easy just put newspaper by the door and when u see them doing a 'busy' just quickly pick them up and place them on the paper or even better outside once u have mastered the paper do the same but take them outside! But remember not to shout or hit your dog because this will make your dog scared and reluctant to want to be trained. GOOD LUCK (:

All dogs are different. But when you get the pup. Take it out side first thing in the morning and then the last thing at night and about every two hours in between. When it goes out side praise him highly when it goes in side show him what he has done and scold him NO NO BAD. then take him outside. When ever he does something he is suppose it do praise him give him a treat something to show you are please. When he is bad show him what he did and scold him. Talk to him like he was a child watch his reactions and it won't be long you will be able to tell what he wants and what he is even thinking.
