How can I be allergic to one dog but not another?

How can I train my dog to poop anywhere outside, not just in one spot?

  • So I have a one year old Beagle, he is house broken, which took quite a long time to do. When we go outside I can bring him to any patch of grass, new or old for him, and he will pee no problem. I want him to be able to poop like this as well. My brother can take his dog out and his dog will poop as long as he is on grass. My dog only likes maybe 2 spots, and will always poop when we are there. I never trained him like this, I just sort of cought on after a while that he seamed to not poop unless he was at that spot. We have an amazing waterfront here and I love going for long walks with him on it, but when the walk is over I have to bring him back to the spot in the park for him to poop everytime. This is not the end of his walk either. I trained him to not think poop = end of walk because that can cause problems. I just want him to be able to poop anywhere outside. I bring him everywhere with me and it would be nice if he could use someones yard when he has to go instead of waiting for his spot or pooping in their house. One thing that seams important to mention is, when we do walk, I can always physically see when he has to poop, his but will get noticeably bigger. Now when it's big like I said and we're near one of his spots he will go, if not, and his butt is big but we're somewhere else he will seam to suck it back in and it shrinks like he's forcing himself to hold it. I've had him since he was 10 weeks, and he's always gotten praise and a treat for going number one and 2, and still does. I don't know how but just over time he seamed to develop a habit of just a couple of spots, and the thing is, I can bring him to the spot right away and he'll poop, or nearing the end of the walk and he'll poop, it's like something clicks and he's like ok poop time I'm here. I want him to think like that for any part of grass, just like he does for his pee. Right now what I am doing is crate training him. (please people if you think crate training is cruel go somewhere else u don't know anything about dogs). I bring him out first thing in the morning like usual, and what I am doing is bringing him to a random spot each time trying to get him to go. If he doesn't go I will crate him and repeat to the same spot until he goes. Once he goes I don't crate him and then next time a new and different spot. Any other ideas, this doesn't seam to be working or it's just going to take a long time? I know most people on here search for the oppsosite, to get the dog to go in one spot, which he can do if it's a backyard, but like I said we have one of the nicest waterfronts and amazing parks around here and it would be nice for him to poop anywhere we go, and not just by his Burger King or one spot in the park lol ps I live in an apartment building so we are not talking about yards here, just parks and grassy areas around buildings, waterfront, etc.

    no offence but i think you are mad to want to change that! That is a miracle that your dog only poops in one/two places! My dog poops anywhere and everywhere (which believe me is really inconvenient) having a dog that will poop in the same place is cool... in its own way. I hate having to do a (going to copy the other guy's saying here (sorry other guy but it was a good way of saying it ;) )) treasure hunt around the garden. Just leave the dog to do its business in those spots, eventually if it needs to poop to badly and you arent near those spots it'll just go on another spot. :/ you have a very cool dog lol xoxo good luck

You sound like a lucky man. I wish our dogs would pick one spot and not distribute it all over the yards forcing me to go on a treasure hunt every week.

Why would you want to? It's better if they only use one or two spots. Just take him to his spot before your walk - if he doesn't go, he doesn't have to.

First, it IS important that he not be so fussy. If over months and years he consistently holds back, he diameter of his colon may increase and there may be a decrease in motility, leading to chronic constipation. This is called megacolon and can mean regular use of enemas, or even surgery. There are two ways to make the urge to defecate impossible to resist. The first is to increase his fiber intake. You can give him psyllium (Metamucil) powder mixed into his food, or in capsule form. This needs to be the unflavored kind. It will mean larger, looser stools but you will not be using it forever, just until he poops more readily. Continue to praise and reward. The other option is to get baby enemas or baby suppositories at the pharmacy. Administer either one 10 minutes before going out, and hold him on his back in your lap so it has time to work. Otherwise he'll just pop them out first chance, without producing stool. If using a suppository, use a Qtip to gently insert it inside by 2-3 inches. Otherwise it will melt just inside the anus and not accomplish your goal.

All I can say is to continually reward him when he is doing what you want him to, other than that I'm really not sure. It may be a habit that you can't break but in the long run it might be a blessing in disguise though I really do understand your frustration.
