Taking my dog to the 4th of july fireworks?
-
ok, so my i have no choice but to take my 5 month old puppy to the 4th of july fireworks, because i cant take her to a boarding place, dont have the money, cant leave him home, i wont be back to let him out. no neighbors are around to let him out and i want him to get used to the fireworks. i have used the fireworks sounds on youtube and he doesnt react to them at all, but i know that wont matter because the fireworks are really loud. he has never reacted to any loud sound before. he is fine with the vacuum and with thunderstorms. i was taking him on a walk, and the garbage truck went by and he just looked at it...he did nothing so i dont think it will be a problem. i mean as long as i bring his favorite toy and treat he should be fine right? i mean the place that i go to always has tons of dog.

seems like a bad idea to me what happens if he freaks out, barks/whines, etc? that'll annoy you and everyone else plus you'll have to deal with that for the rest of the night you'd be better off not taking him
This is a very stupid, unintelligent idea. You will lose your dog when he runs away from fright. The 4th of July is the number one "holiday" where people lose the most pets. The shelters are THE MOST full that time of year. The things you are "testing" him with are NOT things that normally scare dogs, a freaking garbage truck? OBVIOUSLY he didn't react to that. Taking him out where the fire works are RIGHT THERE will not only hurt his ears, but will scare them. Don't bring him. I'm SURE you could just board him for a night. Or, go home so you can leave him at home and don't have to worry.
Not a good idea. He will be terrified. Buy a crate and put him in that till you get home. Or stay home and watch the fireworls on tv. Good luck
I don't like the sounds of this idea. I would not take an untrained puppy and stick him in a situation he can't get out of if he doesn't like it. You could cause way more damage and set back anything you've accomplished with him, and leave him not trusting you. You have a puppy and an obligation to keep him safe. If he can't go, then neither can you if you don't have alternative care.
i think he would be fine if he wasnt freaking out during a thunderstorm, but if he does freak out, then just hold him and pet him. good luck
Fireworks on location are too loud for any dog - even if not afraid of them, they will hurt the dog's ears. Leave him home with someplace to hide if he gets scared, like a crate, big box, or open closet with a blanket in it.
Dogs run away more on July 4th than any other day of the year. A few years ago here, a woman pulled over on the freeway to try to coax a frightened dog into her minivan. She was rear ended and the whole family was killed. I would stay home.
Good luck w. your 4-leg at your 4th of July celebrations.
I wouldnt do that! Our dogs are terrified of them and we live about 10 miles from where they are shooting them. My grandparents live by a pond and their dog almost had a panic attack and he was IN th house not by the pond, but he heard the noise and saw the lights. Fire crackers are different from a garbage truck..its a loud noise followed by a lot of sparks and colors. We have a pit/lab who is about 2 years old and she is calm during bad storms, but when 4th of july comes around; she whines, crys, and get adgitated. I usually take her to my room and she hides under the covers and i have to keep talking to her so she doesnt have a panic attack. Call someone you know: family, family friend to see if they are staying home. Or you can just stay home. We stay home and we can see the fireworks going off in town and by the lake (25 miles away) and we can also help keep our dogs calm and reassured.
