Is it possible to be allergic to certain dog breeds, but not all?

Dog Breeds ?

  • Ive wanted another dog for 2 years but can't decide which breed I want. I have a dog right now that knows allot of voice and hand commands. She listens and responds to everything I say. Ive narrowed It down to a few breeds. English Mastiff, French Mastiff, Doberman Pinscher, Victorian Bulldog, Dachshund, or anything else you can think of is highly appreciated. I know that's allot of different dog breeds, but that's why I can't decide. I live in a large 3 bed-room house. Have lots of in-door space and a medium sized yard with a pool. The dog I get will be around allot of family, friends, and other random people. So the dog will be socialized. The dog will be interacting with Bull Terriers, American bulldogs, Border Collies, Australian Kelpies, and Dachshunds frequently. Those are the dogs in the family. If you need more info, let me know. So what dog do you recommend of the ones listed above? Let me know others you think would be good, too. Don't recommend Labradors or Golden Retrievers, though. P.S. I have been researching dogs for the time being I wanted a dog. Thank you so much! Happy Holidays!

  • Answer:

Sorry but most people may want dogs but often aren't suitable to be dog owners. I can't say that given your description that you need what you want or that your situation would be suitable. When someone goes on about how much 'researching' they have done, odds are they haven't and it doesn't sound like you really have - maybe read some books or some internet sights but that is about it. You won't like that answer but it is a truthful and long experienced one...

definently an American Pitbull terrier!! contrary to popular belief these ARE great family dogs and if raised correctly they can be great with other dogs. Since you rescue dogs i believe that this will be a great dog for you because there are so many of unwanted pitbulls in shelters that need home!!! i hope you get one, i promise you will not be sorry!!:)

I don't know about the other dogs but Border Collies and Australian Kelpies are working dogs and extremely smart. You need a large back yard, to be able spend plenty of time walking them and keeping them occupied as they get bored.

Try Brittany (Spaniel) - large, gun dog/retriever, swimmer, smart, loyal and very sociable. Downside: long coats (I clip mine) and they love you just too much! Never leave you alone!

i have a french mastiff and he is the most awesome dog i have ever owned........tho, w/mastiffs, you gotta remember that you should go light on strenuous activity for the first 1 1/2-2 years of their lives because of their developing joints.........also, keep in mind that mastiffs drool......mostly after they drink water or eat you gotta wipe off their face.....its a good idea to keep a wash cloth on the couch.........he snores......loudly......i don.t mind, i think its funny...

Although not on your list...i have a border collie. she was the smallest girl of the litter and she is a great family dog. She learnt how to shake hands, sit, stand, stay, Roll over, lie down and go the toilet by the time she was one. She sits with me and is very quiet and lazy but has the energy to go on long runs. (best of both worlds). LOVES PEOPLE however on you list i would recommend a French Mastiff!!! very cute and cuddly good luck

All dogs are different and behavior isn't always tied to breed - Please try fostering and see which dog suits your family best. This is win/win for you/your family and the dog. Hope you find find your new best friend soon.

It would be wise to get a boy dog as your girl might not get on well with another girl. That would mean getting him neutered or getting her spayed. Another thing you need to consider is size and amount of exercise each one needs. You haven't mentioned breed or size of your girl. eg You mentioned Dachshund as a potential--well if you already have a small dog that would be ok-- but if yours is a large dog she probably goes for long walks which would soon tire a smaller dog and you would need to exercise them separately!
