How to help the Iriomote Cat?

Cat-lovers, help me out?

  • I'm moving into an apartment shortly and I'm going to be in need of some company. I'm not generally a cat person at all, but apartments usually don't allow dogs and I need a furry friend to ease my lonliness ;) So, I'd love it if you guys could help me figure out what breed of cat I should get or how to tell by a shelter cat's behavior whether or not it's the kind of cat I want in my home. Here's what I'm looking for: 1. I want the most ridiculous, playful, active cat I can possibly find. 2. I need the cat to bond well with me. I don't want a cat that could take me or leave me. I want a cat that likes to follow me around and get in my way. Very very important. 3. The cat can be obnoxiously loud as it pleases. I don't care if it talks a lot. It's almost a positive thing if the cat vocalizes a lot, but definitely not the most important thing. 4. I heartily enjoy goofy looking cats. The looks are absolutely the least important thing, but it would be a plus. 5. I do plan to eventually get a dog. Right now, the imaginary dog that I will eventually have is not the biggest consideration, however I would like to have a cat that will be able to at least tolerate a dog in the future. 6. I'd love a needy attention seeker. The kind of cat that wants me around and doesn't want to be left alone all the time. I have a lot of time to devote to the cat if necessary. I would prefer not to have a cat that requires too much grooming, but if the perfect cat is a big ball of fur that requires daily brushing then I'm willing to compromise. Personality is the most important thing. To put it simply I want a cat with many of the qualities generally associated with dogs. I have NO interest in taking in a cat that doesn't really care whether I'm there or not. So any suggestions on particular breeds with these traits? I'd love to adopt a shelter cat, however I'm not sure how to tell what kind of personality that cat has before I take it home. Any suggestions there?

Though I am a huge supporter of adopting older cats I would recommend that YOU go to a shelter and adopt a Domestic Short Hair kitten. That way it will grow with you and the two of you will bond together. Sounds like you would prefer a male and if you get a shelter kitty it is not uncommon to find ones with Extra toes or other little deformities that make them goofy lookin. The Other option if you are not sure about a kitten I think it sounds as though you should browse the shelter cats for a newly neutered big old tom cat (they Always seem to have to most personality) just check how people friendly it is first.

Get a Siamese. They are almost like dogs! They are very loyal, mine always greeted me when I came home from school. If you introduce them to dogs at a pretty young age they will be just fine. Mine was best friends with a pitbull! So if you want a cat that is playful, loyal and sweet get a Siamese!

Hey with shelters you are always allowed to play and pick up the cat before you take it home. So go to a shelter, pick the cat you like, play with it,walk with it,hold it for a while and if you don't like that cat's personality, then move to the next but just know you are allowed to play with the cats in the shelter to find a good personality. Most shelters have rooms where cats aren't caged in,but roaming the roam.Check it out.Hope this helps.Peace.

get a siamese

Please get a cat from the shelter instead of a breeder. 4/5 cats in shelters die because many potential homes go to cats produced by breeders. Honestly, I don't know if any cat will have ALL the traits you want. However, I do know that many cats eventually adjust to a dog in the household, so that shouldn't be a big consideration. I strongly recommend that you go to the shelter and adopt an ADULT cat since their personalities are already developed so you can find a cat with as many of your listed desirable traits as possible. Good luck!

From my personal experiences owning many different cars here is what I have noticed... Male cats are often more laid back and female cats more active, with the exception of tiger cats I have found to be very active and playful regardless of gender. Male cats are much less fussy and neurotic than females, usually, but occasionally you might get a male who is a bit neurotic and likes to hump blankets and pillows, I have one like that, he is nice, but he is a bit weird. Tiger cats are pretty crazy, you will have your hands full...they get into everything and run around alot. Black male cats are very easy going and are usually very friendly and love people, and love to sit on your lap and be your buddy, they also tend to be very talkative...I have had 2, they are my favorite. One thing to look for when you adopt a cat is their body language towards you. I knew that 2 of the 3 cats I have now were ones I wanted when I went up to the cage and they rolled over and purred and wanted me to pet them. If the cat sits there and acts disinterested when you approach them at the adoption center, they will probably always act disinterested in you even when you bring them home. Hope this helps you in your decision.
