Is there anything I can do at home for constany runny nose?

Please help on my cat's runny nose!?

  • I have a female cat (11 years old) who got declawed 10 years ago. Since she still had three claws left (The doc didn't do a great job) she got the 3 removed the other day. She recovered from it really well, but she started acting like her throat was in pain. She started hacking (nothing comes out from her month) and looked like it was hard for her to swallow anything. Took her back to the vet a week later and the vet told me to start giving her Clavamox 1ml twice a day. (She thought my cat got something in her throat when they put her to sleep) Her hacking got less, but she started having runny nose and also started sneezing. She stopped eating/drinking so went back to the vet 3 days later. The vet told us to stop the med and start giving her Azithromycin 1ml once a day. Also the vet gave her a pill to increase her appetite. Got home around noon, she started eating/drinking. Her nose was wet, but not too badly. I almost thought I won't give her any meds anymore, but I started giving her the new med the night. Next day her nose started doing alot worse. The runny nose is so bad that she can't even sleep... It is hard for her to eat/drink. Called the vet to make sure. The vet said continue the med. Today is the 3rd day to give her the new med, but I feel like I should stop the med or go get the 2nd opinion. Please help me and tell me what you think... thanks.

Definitely get a second opinion! It's better to be safe than sorry. Good luck.

I think your cat has a bad case of Rhino (cat cold)... She probably caught it at the vet when she was there. The Rhino virus stay in the air and in cages for awhile and even though vet clinics have strict sanitization procedures, they can't get rid of all virus. I suggest that you continu the meds but also get her to another clinic for a second opinion. Good luck!

Why would you ever put an 11 year old cat through such a terrible surgery as de-clawing? It is terribly painful!! A lot of Vets will NOT do this surgery anymore, as it is so BRUTAL!! Go to another Vet.
