Answer:
There is no such thing as a hypoallergenic cat, as it is the enzyme in cat saliva that causes allergic reactions in humans. However, regular bathing and a HEPA air filter in the home can almost eliminate the symptoms for all but the most sensitive people. So it is most likely the owner keeping the cat and air clean of dander build up.

Well it could be your around your friends cat a lot and your body is getting use to her cat hair. My dad is the same but hates cats but now that i have a cat and had a kitten he is use to the cat hair. Are you allergic to dogs too?
You're allergic to the dander. Your friend's cat must be brushed more often than others, or has fur that doesn't hold the dander. Go to the allergist and get a shot to protect you from the allergy.
I just got a kitten even though I'm allergic. She's Siberian, and they are supposedly hypoallergenic. People say there is no such thing as a hypoallergenic cat, but hypoallergenic means LESS allergies. Not NONE. So I am still allergic to the new kitten, but not NEARLY as much as other cats. I do NOT want to give up my kitten, I love her so much! So I'm going to talk to my mom about going to get allergy shots. You might want to look into it. Good luck! (PS, some people are allergic to the dander in cats, some are allergic to the fur.)
I love cats too, but some kitties I'm more allergic to than others. An example is we have an indoor/outdoor cat which I'm more allergic to than our indoor cat. The reason is that our outdoor cat has different things in her fur dander, the dusty part of the kitty when you pet it. Cali, the outdoor cat, has pollen, mold, etc, from the soil or lawn she rolls around in or the flowers she rubs against. So she makes my eyes itch, makes me sneeze, and on bad allergy days I wheeze. Wheezing is a symptom of asthma, which I have. Our indoor kitty is exposed to indoor dust and kitty litter dust, that's it. So her fur dander has a lot less in it to be allergic to. This would explain you being more allergic to one kitty over another.
Hon, sometimes the body can become sensitive to things - trees, grasses, foods, animals. It is a response of your body's immune system to something that the body can't tolerate well. Allergies should be taken quite seriously, they are a health risk. And the truth is that more often than not, there isn't much you can do to stop from being allergic. The most common treatment is avoidance. Some people have success with desensitizing treatments, either with shots or with limited minimal exposure - but it takes time and isn't always successful. My sister has severe allergies to cats, but not to dogs, and we had to rush her to a hospital she had a reaction so bad to a cat. I've had to be taken to hospital after cat and shellfish exposure. Some you may be able to tolerate more than others and you can build up a bit of a tolerance, but once you remove yourself from them and then come back, it can start all over again. A friend has three cats and over time I've been able to tolerate them, but I haven't seen her in a few months and went back yesterday and had a doozie of a reaction. Really and truly, the best thing to do is avoid cats or keep contact minimal, and always wash your hands after handling. Sometimes when you are younger you may grow out of the allergy, but it can also get worse, so please just be cautious and responsible - don't put yourself at risk, allergies are not just sneezing or itching - the body's immune system is being affected and you can get quite sick.
