How do I stop my kitten from meowing all night?
-
4 Weeks ago I adopted a kitten from the lost dogs home. He was abandoned at about 4 weeks old. He is now 4 months old. The people at the lost dogs home said he was an angel and they never heard a peep out of him. Now I do agree... during the day he is so lovable and quiet. But as soon as I put the kids to bed and me and my partner go to bed, he starts.. and he meows all night long. he is very affectionate and always wants to be with me.. but at night I need to sleep... alone. I love him to bits, but its like he is suffering from separation anxiety from me..I just want to be able to sleep a full night. Does any one have any ideas, that don't involve him sleeping with us (as hubby hates that). Thanks

Answer:
Maybe he just wants to be with someone, he could be lonely get another kitten or a puppy. a little friend for the little guy :) or just let him sleep with you, last time i checked it wasn't that bad.

i would suggest you read about pack animals the reason he wants to sleep with you is that cats as young are pack animals as an adult he will find a place in the house on hi own. but now he wants to sleep on your head or shoulder
My kitten, Spat, is the same way. She'll literally cry for me and jump onto me, trying to get me to play. I usually just pet her and she sleeps in between my legs and she'll sleep these until mom throws her out in the morning. I suggest you just let him in the same room. If you don't, he'll continue to meow.
yes...at least let the door open. my cat does that when we close the door at night..so we dont. it breaks my heart to hear him meowing for us. my cat many times-but not lately- will sleep with my sister and me (we share a bed) he made his own space which is at my feet. maybe he wont get on your bed..if he does, I personally would let him because I am a push over when it comes to my cat...try and see....idk. I would say put him a little bed in your room but cats sleep any where. maybe your partner can realize that is not that bad... EDIT: it is not uncomfortable to sleep with a cat. the problem is that a few times he has walked on our bed and laid on our backs.-17 pounds of cat. this might be annoying to some but I find it adorable. on the other hand, it is a delight to wake up to a cat who is stretching at the same time as you are. maybe your kitty will take its corner on your bed. maybe he wont want to sleep with you at all, just needs to have access to you. if it turns out he wants to be next to you, what will you do?
well hes only a kitten, so hes basically just a baby or a little kid. and if hes your only cat then hes probably even more lonely, when you get cats or dogs its usually best to get two and raise them together so that if they want to play and you dont feel like playing with them then they can play with the other cat or dog. and at night when every one goes to sleep he can curl up and sleep with another cat. And most cats meow alot, though it depends. they might stop once their older or not. My cats are 4 years old and occasionally they meow if they need or want something, like they go out sometimes and really enjoy that so they meow hecka early and everyone up. If this is a problem now you probably dont really need a pet, Im not trying to be mean but their a big responsibility. a hamster or a fish would probably be better because they just do their own thing. and I think boy cats pee on the walls, and I dont know if they go into heat like girl cats but my cats kept meowing when they were in heat. Maybe you can give him to some close friends or people who you know will treat him right. Also my cats sleep on my bed still, so he might not grow out of it. But my cats dont always do that since they have each other and usually sleep together or alone sometimes. Good Luck.
maybe let him sleep with your kids... or try putting a old clock like one with the 2 bells on top in his bed under a pillow, because it makes the ticking noise like a mothers heart.
get another cat?
As somebody else already mentioned, a 4-week-old kitten is basically akin to a newborn baby -- so of course it's going to be needy and want to sleep with you at night! Kittens aren't even supposed to be separated from their mothers until they're at least 8 or 9 weeks old. This kitten is still a helpless, defenseless, scared little baby that still desperately needs a mommy -- and since you adopted him, you need to take on that role now. Why not just let him sleep with you? I really don't see any reason why that would be such a major issue. It will stop him from crying at night because he'll feel safe and secure with his human mommy and daddy. If the cat was still with its mother, he would still be sleeping with her every night -- kittens as young as he is aren't used to sleeping by themselves. He's not ready to sleep by himself yet. He's crying because he's still a baby, and 4-week-old kittens still sleep with their mama cats. You need to tell your hubby to quit his complaining and just let the cat sleep at the end of your bed at night. Goodness, he's 4 weeks old for crying out loud -- it's not as though he's going to take up a lot of room on the bed! We're talking about a teensy-tiny kitten here, not a 100-pound mastiff or something! I have a 10-pound adult female cat who sleeps at the end of my bed every single night, and my husband and I barely even notice that she's there. She just curls up at the end of our bed and falls asleep. Sharing your bed with a cat really isn't a big deal. If you're REALLY opposed to letting the kitten sleep with you, then try this: get a cat bed from a pet store (or just make one yourself by putting a warm, cozy quilt or blanket in a cardboard box) and put it next to your bed at night. When you and your husband go to bed, take the kitten and put him in his box. He'll feel safe and secure in there because he'll be so close to you, and he will probably fall asleep right away instead of meowing all night long. If he tries jumping into bed with you, just keep putting him back in his box until he starts to understand that his box is where he's supposed to go to sleep at night. He'll get the idea sooner or later as long as you're persistent. Hope that helped. Good luck!
