Would my uncles two farm cats fight? PLEASE ANSWER!?

  • HI, my uncle lives on a farm and has some farm cats two of the cats are siblings because one is male and the other cat is a female and then there is one BIG orange tomcat that frequently visits the farm and the female cat at the farm is in heat so i was wondering if the sibling male cat and the other tomcat will fight for the right to mate with the female? DETAILS: springtime Three total farm cats Both male cats are orange Female cat was recently in heat There are cows on the farm If you think that the two male cats will fight then please give me a descriptive answer! THANKS!

  • Answer:

They most certainly WILL fight. First they will have "singing" contests, which is supposed to be attractive for the female. To humans this sounds like horrible wailing. It may go on for several hours, with short breaks in between. Then they have the fight. Sometimes one might jump at the other, who might give up easily. Other times it is a serious fight, with both cats stuck together rolling around in a ball, with a lot of growling and hissing going on. Then they'll separate and have another go. But this is just between the males, because they feel like fighting. The female does not have to choose the winner. Being brother and sister won't worry them, as cats don't have any concept of incest like people do. In fact she might prefer the brother, being more used to him, over the visiting stranger. Or she might mate with both several hours apart. This happens a lot with cats, ao it is possible the kittens won't all have the same father. But as both the possible fathers are orange, you'll never know. In the summary you say the female "was recently in heat" so all this is ancient history. If she's no longer in heat, she is already expecting. The presence or absence of cows nearby has never been studied as a factor in a cat's choice of mating partner. Certainly city cats manage to mate and have kittens quite nicely, without ever having seen a cow. By the way, if there are bulls on a farm, and they're allowed to roam free, they will also have a snorting and head-butting contest if the cows are in heat. In their case, the winner usually gets the cow(s) but only because the loser is afraid to go near them for fear of getting beaten up again.

They most certainly will not fight. Keep them away from the cows though.
