Is it true that cats cause infertility?

Are cats owners responsible for the damage their cats cause to property?

  • hi, My neighbour owns a few cats, but my problem is they are destroying my car, they destroyed my previous car an i would really like to stop it now before they do the same to this car. When my neighbour realises I'm chasing them off my car, they hid away and stop talking as if I'm doing something wrong, I don't harm the cats just shoo them away. I have confronted them in the past about their cats coming through my kitchen window an eating a roast that was sitting in my kitchen cooling, they laughed and just shrugged!! They hadn't even the manners to apologise, just stand an laugh. This is really starting to frustrate me. My question is are cat owners responsible for the damage their cats may cause like dog owners are? I live in northern ireland.

  • Answer:

Yes they are. The OWNERS of the cats are RESPONSIBLE for there cats they OWN. So if they can't keep there cats away from your car then maybe call the cops or aspca to have a talk with them.. Good luck!

In the UK people who have cats (nobody owns a cat as it is free to go wherever it chooses) are not held responsible, in law, for the cats actions.

In the UK cats are not considered "property" as they cannot be tamed and you cannot therefore be held responsible as you can with a dog.

I searched the internet, but I can't find anything that specifically applies to cats. However, in Ireland there are tons of laws that say the owner is responsible if their dog causes property damage so I think you have a fair chance at the same law applying to their cats. Not to mention, their cats are technically trespassing on your property. Tell them to keep the animals on their own property- if they fail to do so, trap them (humanely!!) and take them to the local animal shelter.

Get photos and videos of the cats on your car and going home if you can. Take them to court with you along with an estimate of damage from an auto shop and pictures of the damage. You might win a case and small claims courts often cost as little as 30.00 ,and you can sue the cat owners for your filing fee too.

Get as much proof as possible, video the cats damaging your property, send letters to the owners requesting they stop the animals from damaging your stuff and keep copies, send the letters recorded. If they do nothing to stop the animals then I think you should take them to small claims court. Good luck

no a cat is a free spirit and has no owner if you harm them you come under cruelty to animals act and can be prosecuted try putting some sort of cat repellent on you car or shoot them with a squeezy bottle with some cold water or a water pistol it won’t harm them but they won’t like it

Yes. Er, wait, Ireland? Don't know the laws around there. Find the # of your local police station & ask about it. ~fayquest

Exactly how are the cats 'damaging' your car? They destroyed your previous car? What are they, tigers? A domestic cat isn't capable of 'destroying' a car. They may leave paw marks, but unless they get inside they can't do much else! Under UK law, cat owners are not responsible for what their cats do. If this is really bugging you, then see a solicitor. A solicitor's letter to you neighbours may make them take your complaints seriously. Myself, I'd advise them to cat-proof theitr garden, so their cats wouldn't cause nuisance to others. But I'd love to know how a cat can 'destroy' a car!
