Can i hook up stereo speakers up to a tv?

    If your TV's audio out connection is the same as your av receiver's audio input connection then it's ok. Connective your hi-fi stereo speakers is just a basic connections to your left and right speaker-level connector.

Yes, but there are many ways: If your TV has external speaker connectors, just connect the speakers. If you have an AV receiver, just connect the TV to a HDMI or video out on the receiver, ie use the TV as a display only. If your TV has audio line out jacks only, connect them to the aux input on the receiver. This is probably what you will do. Depending on the details, you will control the setup with one or more remotes, so think about how you would like it to work. I use as many as 5 remotes at once, ie TV, Rx, Cable Box, Blu-ray, VCR,... gets to be confusing but I think this is typical. You may want to look at an AV computer and use a mouse/keyboard instead.
