Hooking up my surround sound!!?

  • I need help hooking up my surround sound. I need to hook up my.. Surround sound box to my a) cox cable box AND b) playstation 3 I have an HDMI cable for tv, a coaxial cable, and optical cable

  • Answer:

Please provide Model, brand of your surround sound system. For PlayStation connect one end of optical cable to ps3 and other to your surround system (Optical input), select that input (from your surround sound) when you play PS3 (you need to do some changes on your PS3 setting). For cable box red and white cable connect to your surround sound input, If your surround have multi HDMI input then connect PS2( insted TV) on input 2, Cable box(insted TV) on input 1, and only one hdmi from surround-sound to TV, Just change input to surround sound just you change input to TV with remote.

Not to sound like a smart a_ _ The signal comes out of the ps3 cable/ box/ dvd/ etc. and goes into the surround sound box. You need to find out what kind of outputs each device has. and hope your surround sound box has the right inputs. If your surround sound box for example only has one digital coaxial audio input, usually colored orange not always orange, you might need a switch box, If you have more than device with digital coax output(what do you do when you have a toaster and a microwave and only available wall outlet left because the blender is plugged into one of the two) Unplug the blender or some add more outlets..In consumer electronics you use switch boxes they allow you to plug more than one lets say DVD player and be able to see them on the tv without having to plug and unplug cables every time you want to a different dvd. Just remember the sound and picture comes out of the ps3 or the cable box and needs to go into and input device. My yamaha surround sound receiver allows me to send video in to it and and out of it into the tv. An output goes to an input as I already said my dvd /cable box /game system sends a signal out(output) so I have to find a place send that signal into(input) and each different device can have a different number of ins and outs. It would help to know what plug ins you have on each device
