Converting Stereo to 5.1 surround sound?

I would like to convert a stereo sound track to 5.1 surround using Vegas Pro 10, Do i get good surround sound quality from this conversion? Is stereo to 5.1 conversion output has the same quality as the original 5.1?

A 5.1 is recorded as 5.1 with separate audio tracks for each and every channel. I don't know how far your conversion from stereo to 5.1 is successful through the Vegas Pro 10. I don't think that this will be a successful one - of course - I have not tried this. First go through the vegas Pro 10 theory, thoroughly. And then try this. I don't know how, separate tracks can be edited from an ordinary stereo and routed to the rear and sub woofer tracks as rear sound and sub woofer channels, using your Pro 10.

Yes you can. If you have the time, patience, and skill to perform sound mixing and distribution, give it a go. I always enjoy 5.1 formats such as SACD, DTSCD, or even DVDaudio however these were done with sophisticated audio hardwares.
