How to hook up Xbox to an older TV?

How to hook up my surround stereo system to my TV (for cable) and Xbox 360?

  • Hello, I got out my Sony 5 Disk Changer so I can hook it up to where I can hear audio coming from my Cable and my Xbox 360. The cable is currently hooked up to my TV through HDMI. My Xbox is hooked up through the normal 5 cable component into my TV too. Now I just need to figure out how to get my Sony Stereo System to play the audio from both my Xbox 360 and Cable through my stereo speakers (not at the same time of course). The only cable that I can find for my stereo is a "Red, Blue, Green" RBG cable, and I don't know where to plug it in so I can hear my cable through the speakers when I want to, and my Xbox 360 when I want to. I'm usually pretty tech savvy but I can't figure this one out. Please help! Thanks!

  • Answer:

red green and blue is component video, only video info goes through those cables. go audio out of your cable box to your surround receiver, and send the audio out fo the xbox to the receiver. I don't know how many inputs you have on your receiver, there should be a way. another way to do it is to send everything to the tv from both sources (aud and vid from cable and xbox) then re-route audio back down to the surround from the TV.
