Trouble With Blu-Ray Player?

LG Bluray player BD350C, can it do 120hz?

  • Was just wondering if anyone knew if the LG Bluray player (BD350C) is capable of putting out 120hz or not? I see the settings for 60hz and 24hz in the bluray player's settings. Am I getting everything out of my 120hz TV if the bluray player only shows an output option of 60hz max? Should I get a newer bluray player if thats the case? Thanks!

  • Answer:

No. You will only find the 120HZ on LCD and LED tvs. All dvd and Blu ray disc player are at 60HZ. Hope this will help you out.

The 1080p on your HDTV is only going to accept 60 Hz or 24 Hz (depending upon setting and disk content). A 120 Hz HDTV "cannot" accept 120 Hz input, it just internally interpolates the 24 Hz or 60 Hz input to more images to sharpen motion blur and smooth motion. I often see people with 120 Hz HDTVs trying to figure out how to get their PC to use 120 Hz, but it does not work that way. 60 Hz is the fastest input it will accept at 1080p. It may accept faster refresh rate for lower resolutions, but you would not be able to see the difference on an LCD screen anyway. And pixels for gaming are more discrete than a video with blurry source, so motion blur in gaming should not even be perceptible at 60 Hz if your computer hardware is up to the task. I could not even detect any motion blur gaming on my old LCD monitor with rather sluggish 25 ms response time. I am now using a 32" LG 32LH40 as a computer monitor (DVI to HDMI) with 120 Hz disabled, and with LG BD370 BluRay player with "LOW 120 Hz" enabled on the TV for that. Fast motion looks pretty good.
