How can I play DVD-9 on Samsung home theater HT-TP33?

Samsung or Sony All-in-one home theater system?

  • I want to buy a home theater for my room so I can play Xbox, watch movies, and listen to music. I've been looking on Bestbuy.com and found two possible systems. Samsung http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+-+1000W+5.1-Ch.+DVD+Home+Theater+System/9761447.p?id=1218168619879&skuId=9761447 Sony http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+BRAVIA+1000W+5.1-Ch.+DVD+Home+Theater+System/9770715.p?id=1218170520148&skuId=9770715 Both of them have a dvd drive and are 5.1 channel systems

  • Answer:

Many companies make so called home theaters in a box (HTIB). Very few are worthy of mention. And then those cost considerably more than many consumers are willing to pay. But in the world of home theater, quality is everything. Many HTIB's are poorly constructed overseas from parts supplied by the lowest bidder. All you have to do is flip it over & see where it was made to determine why it performs so poorly. HTIB's are limited in their flexibility & functions to simply play back what few sources they are capable of doing. Often times the sound is poor due to limited power & limitations of the speakers frequency range. Poor sound is also attributed to poor workmanship on the low quality circuit boards. The soldering is done by automated machine which leads to bleed over of electrical connections. Then of course the shipping is starting from far away. It spends months in extreme temp changes while in cargo containers. The best way to go about looking into home theater is to consider it a hobby. Everyone has different tastes in the way they prefer sound. What sounds good to you would not be ideal for me. But treating it as a hobby you will be able to construct a surround sound theater that sounds better than a real theater. By using only high quality products can this be achieved. What is needed at a minimum is a good receiver, 5 speakers, & a sub woofer. It's preferred that the front three speakers all be made from the same company & from the same line of speakers to achieve consistent sound across the front of the room. The center channel being the most important because it will give the dialogue. It needs to be clean & clear from a high quality speaker. Other things to look at in a receiver are the inputs. It needs to have the new hi def decoding for hi def sources. Those are called Dolby HD & DTS - Master Audio. A good receiver also needs 2-4 HDMI inputs and pre-outs for all channels in case you want further expansion with stronger amps. Also some very end high speakers require more power than some lower end receivers are capable of driving. In the world of high end audio, prices of some products are astronomical. But there are many places you can buy them used so that you can do your trial & error as I have done. It's taken me a decade plus to get what I have & to see it, you would think there isn't much there. But the quality sure is. I'm using a Yamaha receiver, Marantz & Conrad-Johnson amps, Sony video, Audioquest wiring, Panamax power conditioning, and Legacy speakers. All of that sitting on a tubular steel stand from Billy Bags. Like I said, it's not the quantity, it's the quality. Good day!
