What subwoofer should I buy?

  • I am looking at the Polk 10" 100 Watt Subwoofer and the Sony 10" 100 Watt Subwoofer. This will be my first subwoofer and I love bass but with great sound quality. Which should I get?

    Between the choices you have, I would go with the Polk Audio. Sony is not a very good subwoofer at all. In fact I never has a Sony product that lasted more than 3 years. Hope this will help you out.

I purchased Polk Audio PSW10 10-Inch Monitor Series Powered Subwoofer about 2 months ago and since then have given it an extensive listening test. Following is a list of things I would do to improve sound quality as well as some reservations I have toward it.

Both are OK for entry level subs. I would go w/ the Polk b/c they have a lot more experience at making speakers than Sony does. Sony is great for Blu-ray, TV's, & walkmans. That's about it. But when it comes down to the quality and power, neither are going to be star performers. You have to spend a sh** load of money if you want to be in the elite class of subs. For a couple of grand used, the JL F112 total rocks. But the best of the best imo is the Legacy XTreme XD. Link: http://www.legacyaudio.com/products/view/xtreme-hd/ It's almost $4K. Cheers!
