How to connect analog surround sound system to digital tv/dvd player?

  • My father has an old surround sound system ( not sure what brand) that has wires for individual hook ups to an older dvd player. He now has a blue ray dvd player and wants to hook up the old speakers to it. Is there a device that allows this or does he need to buy a new set of speakers?

  • Answer:

try one of these to convert the digital sig to the analog - put the following into google images: Gefen TV Digital to Analog Audio Decoder GTV-DD-2-AA go out from the TV to this converter, then to the surround sound it's all about the software. this isn't the only one that does it, but it's a great example. good luck

Blu ray disc player only have an HDMI cable or the component and optical audio cable connection. It can be connected to the tv using HDMI, which is the only cable that can handle the 1080P video and the 7.1 audio in one cable. The old surround sound system has to have an optical audio input for you to connect the tv to so you can hear the sound from the tv. Without the optical audio input your system can not be used. Hope this will help you out.
