How to output music from Iphone to Speakers wirelessly?

  • I was at my CEO's backyard for a corporate function half a year ago. He gave me his Iphone and asked me to select a song to play from his Iphone 3GS. After I selected the song, the music started playing from his set of outdoor speakers. He has a set of speakers in his backyard (not sure wireless or not). I did some research and couldn't figure out how he did it. I wanted to do the same and to setup the speakers inside my home. I know there are Apps out there that let you play music and use your Iphone as a remote. Can it be done without having the computer to act as a intermediary? Can this be done cheap? Could he have used Apple's AirPort Express? Could he have used Bluetooth?

    It was probably an app to control his music server system. It probably wasn't coming straight from the iPhone. Sonos, I'm sure among others, makes a system that will do that.

Wouldn't be that hard (if I had an iphone...). All you need is a wireless device (ipad, phone, laptop, whatever) and a computer inside the house connected to the stereo system. Enable file sharing on the computer with the music, and let'er rip. I could probably do it right now if I wanted. I've already got my basement computer and stereo connected with (wired) speakers outside on the patio. More than likely I could access my music with my wifes android based reader.

I would think bluetooth would be the easiest and simplest way to do that. Here is an example of what he could have used.
