What is the difference between a DVD home theater system and a regular home theater system?

Can i connect a new dvd player to my dvd-home-theater system ?

  • i have a sony dvd home theater system and now my dvd player is spoilt. its cheaper to buy a new one than to repair this one. can i purchase a new standalone dvd player and connect it to my home theater ??

  • Answer:

No. These all-in-one crap-tastic systems are NOT designed to mix or match with other gear. When one part breaks, you have to toss the entire system and purchase a new one.

Most home theater in a box are not designed for you to add or upgrade. Also most of them does not have any video input at all and some may have an optical audio input. Check and see if your system has an optical audio input, if you do not have one then you would not be able to use it with a new dvd player. If it has one, then you connect the dvd player directly to the tv and then connect an optical audio cable from the tv to the surround sound system. Those home theater in a box are low quality products and they don't last long. Keep in mind that most manufacturer have stopped producing stand alone dvd players, due to the blu ray disc player will also play the dvd. Hope this will help you out.
