If my TV has component input, is it HD-ready?

What is hybrid component input on a tv?

  • Is it a special cable that varies from standard component cables? I have to use standard component cables as input to a new tv and it only lists hybrid component input. Do standard component cable plugs fit in a hybrid input or do I need to find a standard component/hybrid component cable or some sort of converter? Thanks

  • Answer:

"Hybrid" means "unusual" or "unique" or "multi-function" to that device. It is not a general term anybody can tell you about. (Why dont you read your manual?) For example: It could mean that the 3 RCA jacks can receive Component video and the same 3 jacks can receive Composite/Left/Right audio. This would be a 'hybrid' input. And be careful about component cables. "Component" is a standard-def cable set and chances are you have a new HDTV so you should buy cables rated for HD frequencies. Try www.bluejeanscables.com for good HD rated cables that wont cost you $$$.
