When connecting surround sound components together which connections do you use?

Can i use my existing speakers, speaker cables and connections with another dvd surround sound player?

  • Hi, really hoping someone can help me with this. Got a Samsung HT- X30/ HT-TX35 connected up-too a Samsung 50" Plasma. Had both for about 2 years now. Just recently the surround sound system has stopped working. The speakers are fine and parts of the main unit work, for example i can play the xbox through the surround sound on aux 2 and the sound comes through fine. But when i go to play a dvd through the main unit without anything extra plugged in and it just wont load it. It doesn't play anything anymore. The picture shows it trying to load it but then it just comes up with unknown disc and the display on the dvd says 'stop'. Cant think of anything else to try, have held down the stop button when its got no dvd in to set it back to factory default but it still wont play the dvds that it once did. So if anyone know how to fix it, where to get it fixed or if there is another main unit i can buy to just plug the speakers into with the same connections because the speaker cables go right up into the walls and loft and it saves hassle. Please help. Greatly appreciated! xox

  • Answer:

You can get a new receiver and connect the existing speakers. Just check the OHM rating of the speakers, usually 8, and how much power they can accept and buy a receiver which is compatiable. Too powerful and it will blow the speakers out, too weak and it won't power them enuf.
