How do I hook up surround sound to the TV channels, not just the DVD player alone?

  • I just bought and installed a LG Infinia 65LW6500 65 inch tv along with an LG BD670 blu-ray dvd player. I also have a surround sound system hooked up through the DVD player but I was wondering whether I could hook up the surround sound onto the tv channels I have. I have no cable box, and its just hooked up from the wall to tv. (Wowway tv service) How can i hook up the surround sound to my tv's channels?

    Every TV will have an audio out port. So you just take that and run the wires from your TV to your surround sound system. You can also run your blu-ray audio to your TV as opposed to the surround sound system. This way you'll be able to always use your surround sound system to play the Audio of whatever is being displayed on your TV, as opposed to constantly having to switch input sources on your audio receiver.

What you need is for your surround sound system to have a digitial optical audio input port, which would take the TV's audio out feed from it's digital optical audio output port. Plus, of course, the appropriate connecting cable.

TV today only provide you an optical audio output. This is a digital signal that has to be decoded by a receiver, home theater in a box with an optical audio input or a sound bar. Those home theater in a box are not flexible for adding anything to them or upgrading, when one item fails you will have to replace the whole system. Connect an optical audio cable from the tv and the other end to your sound system. Your tv owners manual or your sound system will also provide you the proper instruction for connection.
