How do I watch videos from my PC on my TV?

Apple TV, Roku, Boxee for Windows PC LAN Video Streaming?

  • I have a Windows PC with 5TB of space for movies TV shows. I need them streamed in HD to my big screen in another room. What is the best way to do this? Will the new Apple TV pick up my Windows PC? Can I even do something like that with Roku or Boxee... I'm not interested in Hulu or Netflix obviously I just want my videos streamed to my TV. I know it's possible but don't know how to do this. I also have a MacBook Air and iPhone if that can be used as an intermediary between my PC and TV. I don't necessarily want to have my phone out of commission whenever I watch a movie though ie. using AirVideo to stream from my iPhone to the Apple TV. Anyways, I'd really appreciate a solution here!

  • Answer:

I use a Boxee Box. It can access any shared resource on my network. So far, it has played nearly every video format I have thrown at it. If it wouldn't play the video, neither would VLC. It can play ISO images too. I have played DVD's that were in ISO files. Mind you, a real DVD player blows this away (as does every other player that can play DVD ISO's I've seen). I have also played DVD-Audio disk images on it too and yes, I get 5.1 sound at 96/24 doing so. Then one day, something I downloaded was in a RAR file format. I clicked on it and it opened on the Boxee Box. I was able to play the AVI file that was in the RAR file without first decoding it. That blew me away.
