How do I connect my Comcast DVR box to my tv?

Is it possible to add a USB Hard Drive to a Comcast Cable DVR for more space for more TV Shows?

  • Ok, I have a Comcast DVR Box. It records my TV Shows, however it's been getting full & I do not want to keep deleting some of my favorite shows! So is it possible to connect a USB Hard Drive to the Comcast DVR box and use that as backup when the stock hard drive on the cable box runs out of free space? Is that possible? My Comcast Cable box does have a USB Port on the back, it also has a eSATA port which I think are for hard drives, but not sure. But anyway, is that possible? If so, how I would I set it up?! TEN POINTS FOR THE BEST POSSIBLE ANSWER! :D

  • Answer:

You should probably contact your Comcast office to see what those jacks are for. I have the ability to 'back up' shows on my Dish receiver to a USB hard drive. But: * The Dish box must re-format the hard drive so it is not compatible with any computer * It takes 4-6 hours to transfer Chances are - you cannot. The Cable company wont want you hooking your gear up to their box - then calling in and complaining and wanting tech support. The TV and cable stations dont want you to be able to copy off shows. Otherwise you could crack the copy protection and give/sell movies & shows on eBay or across Asia and Europe.
