Is there any way to connect a laptop to a Comcast cable box?

How to connect a Comcast Cable Box that wasn't originally assigned to my house?

  • Kind of confusing title but what i want to know is if you can connect a cable box to your tv and have the comcast guide work and stuff even when you werent the customer from comcast who received the box. My dad got comcast tv and internet so when they came to install the tv they gave us the cable box but we didnt get many channels so one time i was moving the tv and couch around and plugged it in without the box and we got like 50 more channels somehow without paying. At my moms house i have a tv in my room and i wanted a cable box so i brought it over thinking itd work on my tv which already gets a bunch of channels through comcast and it says: Attention your explorer settop is not authorized for use. Please call [(800)266-2278] (and yes it spelled setup settop) Is there anyway i can use the box?? or should i call and just say i got a new tv and the box doesnt work and just hope they dont find out the box wasnt on my moms comcast account

    Yeah, Comcast will shut down unauthorized boxes after a while, so you may get channels for now, but eventually your system will be audited and they'll charge you for it. Also, when they said settop, they did not mean setup. It refers to the SetTop Box (aka your cable box)

Yeah what your doing is illegal for start since the box is assigned to a certain address sort of like a ip address on a computer, that person rents the box from the company, meaning comcast still owns the box You call and give them a serial number and there gonna want to know why you have the box Some cable companies will sell the box but not common since they are around 250-350 dollars each You would be better off buying a google tv since it works with cable tv like a TiVo but without subscription

hello u cant use the box for free it needs too be reset after u give thenm the serial number hope this helps!!!!!!!
