Where can I get a download for "scan.msi?

Was told I could only really get half my download speed through my wireless is this right?

  • I just got off the phone with neatgear and here's what happened. I called because I was only getting 1.5 MBPS through my wireless router. I worked for over an hour with the guy on the phone to get it up to like 3.5 MBPS. I told him I wanted to get it higher still, but he basically told me that wasn't going to happen. So I'm a little confused, because I have between 6.5 and 7 MBPS download through my internet service provider and its supposedly a 108 MBPS router and my WAN card is 54 MBPS, so shouldn't I be able to get at least to like 5 MBPS. He said it was a security thing that if I wanted all 7 I would have to sacrifice security. I know nothing about wireless security, so is that correct? Because I want to say intuitively that if the security, which I believe just goes from the computer to the router, could be pushed up off into those 10s of other MBPS I have sitting around. But I don't really know. So here's the question, can I get my full 7 MBPS download through my wireless and if so how could I manage it?

  • Answer:

The security thing the tech guy said is bull. I know this is probably obvious, but how strong is the wireless connection between your router and your machine? Also, are you positive it's a problem with your router? If you connect to your network by cable, does your download speed increase?

you should be able to get the same download speeds on your wireless as you can get on your ethernet connection. The wireless is capable of sending and receiving at a higher rate than your ISP is even providing you.

The speeds they show for most electronic equipment was obtained under ideal conditions in a test facility. What you will get in the real world will be much less and with wireless the farther away you are and how many walls etc. between you and the router will make a big difference in speed. If you are getting 1.5meg you are doing pretty good.
