What and how Do wireless Printer Work?

HOW DO YOU NETWORK one printer to work with two iMAC computers through home wireless internet connection?

  • WHAT I HAVE: 2 iMACs OS 10.5 and one HP printer, and Comcast wireless internet connection at home. WHAT I HAVE TRIED, BUT FAILED: 1. On my main iMAC-D, I setup the printer and turned it on and right click on the printer icon in "printers and faxes" then click properties, sharing, and share this printer. 2. Then on the other computer (iMAC-S) go to the printing options, click add a printer, and do a network printer. I am supposed to search and find the printer I just shared and then I can add it. BUT THE PROBLEM IS that I couldn't find the HP printer on my 2nd computer (iMAC-S) that I was searching for. If you have any experience and/or knowledge on this, please share. Your input is very much appreciated.

    The problem with your solution is that the computer that the printer is connected to must always be on to act as a print server to the rest of the network. I had a similar problem where I have a couple lap tops and 2 desktops all trying to print on one printer. Sorry I don't know iMACs but on a PC you can search or you can enter the name of the other computer and the share name you gave the printer. eg: \\MainComputer\printername

network printer is different from normal printers,network printer need not to be installed in a system,it is installed on network,means a network printer can directly connect to a switch or to a hub,there will be an ip address for the netowrk printer,but a normal printer doesn't have like that,it is just installing on a computer,so here if it is a usb printer then install it on any of the imac and when if you need to print from the second imac locate the printer on the printing wizard .
