Weather and Cable Connectivity Issues?

  • I've been having a problem with my DSL connectivity recently. We have Comcast for our Internet, TV, and Phone, and around 6-8 pm, for the past week, our connection to the internet is out, and our phone is offline as well, but will reconnect from anywhere between 2-30 minutes after it goes out. The connection does not seem to be affected in the daytime, or in the late night/early morning hours. Our TV has also had pixelation issues lately. I'm in Kansas, and have only noticed this problem since we've had the heat wave for the past week. Is the hot weather the culprit here? We've tried switching modems, and disconnecting our old wireless router. Every time I've tried asking a tech this question, it hasn't really been answered. Any opinions?

First of all Comcast doesn't offer DSL, they use DOCSIS cable, which is a different technology. http://docsiscablemodem.com/ The key fact that you included in your question is that the phone service also goes out. This eliminates many things as a possible problem such as the cable modem, router, and any computer's network cards. Your problem is either where the cable makes connection to your house, usually in a box mounted outside or upstream of that. In either case, it should be Comcast's problem. I would call them and explain that you are losing phone and Internet service. Any decent technician will understand the problem is on their end. Good Luck...
