How do I set up the Internet on my Vista?

How do I set up my laptop [running XP] to access the internet wirelessly via my desktop P.C. [running Vista]?

  • My Internet access is high-speed via cable [Cox]. Bought my desktop P.C. last year, and its operating system is Windows Vista. My partner has an older Dell laptop that has Windows XP [Home edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2], and he'd like to be able to access the Internet on it in another room. What sort of wireless router do we need? The laptop's processor is 1.50 GHz. The internal modem is 56K. Internet specs are [1] a Broadcom 440X 10/100 Integrated Controller, and [2] a 1470 Wireless WLAN card. We're both tech idiots, so any help you can give would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  • Answer:

Just buy a wireless router. Connect the router to the cable modem. Follow instructions on how to set up the router from either the CD or manual that came with the router.

I'd just call the people that you want to install it and let them do it. Arthur it's very simple. He's putting a bunch of useless data when all he needs is someone to install his router. I got two thumbs down for saying that when he thinks "internal modem is 56k" matters...
