Is it possible to share an iPhone's wireless internet service with a desktop PC?
-
I know this is a strange question but there is some logic behind it. A guy I work with can't get high speed internet at his home (DSL or Cable). He could get HughesNet but it's VERY expensive. He has dial-up but it's horrible. He is very interested in getting an iPhone 3GS. The data plan on an iPhone is unlimited for $30/month compared to $50+/month for a regular mobile broadband adapter for a laptop or desktop that has very restrictive data limits. So here's my question: if he bought an iPhone with the unlimited data plan, is it possible to share the iPhone's internet service with his PC? This way, he'd have the best of both worlds with only one bill. I'm not sure if it could be done thru the USB charging cable or maybe it would have to be thru Bluetooth or WiFi. If anyone knows if this is possible, please let me know. Thanx!

Answer:
No. While the iPhone can do it, ATT won't allow it. Even still, whenever ATT finally decides to offer the service, it'll probably be an upcharge that will put the total cost in the neighborhood of just buying an adapter anyway.

It is possible to tether your iPhone to a laptop using either the USB charging cable or Bluetooth with iPhone OS 3.0 and above. If you are in the US, the functionality is there, but AT&T has not yet turned on the service. Other parts of the world have that feature enabled. There's no word on when AT&T will turn on that feature.
