HOW DO I RESET MY ROUTER TO ITS ORIGINAL NAME?
-
so i went to my friends house to show off my new lap top. i wanted to conect to his internet to get online but it asked me for an 8 diget # on the label of the router. we thought it was kind of wiered because we never needed that befor. his internet never had a code and it was named something els. belkin something. after we conected the hp laptop to the internet he was kiked off line from his playstation but the computer where the router is at stayed on. we tried to log back online on the play station but it changed the name from belkin to user-hp and it has a pasword now. how do i reset it to its original name and get his internet back with no password needed. or i guess you would call it an open conection. i really dont know anything about this kind of stuff so please HELP!!! i feel bad for my friend because he cant get online.

Can you login to router console through browser? If so you can change all the configuration there. I am assuming that you can not login to router through browser as you do not have password, in that case you need to reset the router (Which will revert it to factory default) and reconfigure it. Resetting router depends upon router make and model.
It seems there is a password on the belkin that was setup by the owner to stop people from using their internet access without their permission. The reason the main computer did not have this issue is due to it being hard wired into the router. The Playstation is getting kicked off due to your wirelss taking it's IP address to the router. If you have the playstation wired to the router just move the Ethernet cord to the last ethernet slot and what the wireless connect will do is assign itself to the first open IP address with the router. Since the playstation is wired to the highest number unless you have 2-3 wireless connections going on you should be fine.
