How do I hookup my printer from desktop to laptop?

Which wireless router or network is best for connection from desktop to laptop?

  • So, I live in New York City, and there are many people and possible wifi connections around me, and we're looking to safely hookup my new laptop (HP dv4-1540us) to our desktop (an old dell). For right now we'll just be streaming internet and movies (netflix) to the laptop 2 rooms away (possibly hooked up to our tv), but in the near future I'll be looking at a wireless printer for our computers as well. Should I be looking at a wireless N router, or set up a network somehow? I don't have bluetooth in the laptop, but could get the usb hookup I think. Any suggestions? Thanks a ton. R

  • Answer:

I would use a linksys wireless router.

I use a NetGear RangeMax MIMO (only costs around $75) and have had very good results with it. I live out in the country and I can sit in a lawn chair on our far back patio (about 60 feet back from the back of the house) and still have a perfectly good connection. You'll need to make sure you set up a password on it or with that router you're bound to have neighbours stealing your signal.
