What are Wireless N and G?

What is a wireless G router and N router? what are their purpose?

  • Answer:

If you're talking about Netgear Routers, the letters represent different speeds. G is kinda low range. What Netgear says is a bit OTT though. I have 7 computers in my house, all connected to the internet and to each other wirelessly. I regularly download big files and am a heavy internet user and my G router works fine for me. N router, which is what Netgear suggested I should get, is the top of the range. If you require a wireless signal over a large area (4 floors, 10 rooms) and are constantly downloading HD movies and transferring large (1GB+) files. Then this is the router for you. Hope this helps
