Need help with messed up internet?

My internet wireless is down router is running fine i messed up my setting plz help i need help please!!!

• k so heres the deal...i hooked up the ethnet cord from my xbox to my lapop.. so i can play live it doesnt work but i did it today and it works but besides the point anyways wen u hook up the cord a bubble pops up saying do u want an unknown internet sourse to use ur computer ( aka the x box) u click yes....and anyways something happened and that ****** up my network settings...idk how and idk what....dun worry about my x box.....worry about my comp...wenever i try to connect to the inernet it says my network settings does not match my network...what does this mean and how do i fix this..btw i have a hp paviollion laptop please get my netowork settings to work please ive been without my comp for like 10 days and im ussing my friends..t.hank u and please give me step to step on how to access my network settings

  Try checking the settings on your wireless router first. To do that you need to log in to the router by opening a browser and keying in the gateway address. To get the gateway address open a command prompt and type ipconfig. The address showing in the default gateway is the number you want to put in the browser. Depending on what kind of router you have and how you set it up but if it's a linksys their will be no user name and the password is admin; if it's a netgear router the user name is admin and the password is password. Check your settings and make any necessary changes. That would be step one of troubleshooting your connection. Next would be to check your network settings on your laptop. Open control panel and open network settings. Right click and check those. I won't go into detail on all the changes that could be done if you know somewhat of how they should be set. hope this helps.
