Why cant i send emails to yahoo accounts from my live account? I don't have a hot mail account.?

I get an error message saying my account is not associated with a Hot mail account. I don't have one. and i went to hotmail.live.com as instructed, only to be further confused. Can anyone help me figure this out? Please!
