Desktop computer connected to internet through ethernet, connect xbox to desktop through USB ethernet port?
-
I just bought a USB ethernet port to plug into my computer, so I can run a ethernet cable from my xbox to my desktop computer for internet. My desktop computer gets internet through a ethernet cable to the router. I installed the driver for the USB ethernet port, and the computer recognizes it. I went to network sharing center, right clicked "Local Area Connection 2" which is the USB ethernet port, and go to properties and went to the sharing tab and clicked on allow internet sharing. After I do that and click OK, my internet on my desktop gets set to Local only instead of Local and Internet. I unplug the USB ethernet and it goes back to normal sometimes, other times i have to set it back to automatic for the IP address. I even plugged my internet ethernet cable into the USB ethernet port, and it wouldn't have the internet work with it either. This is what my USB ethernet Port looks like: http://www.google.com/imgres?num=10&um=1&hl=en&authuser=0&biw=1280&bih=845&tbm=isch&tbnid=6i-u6qIwa6yMWM:&imgrefurl=http://3acyber.en.alibaba.com/product/247224800-201060187/USB_to_RJ45_Lan_10_100_Ethernet_Adapter.html&docid=527-RATXK-A3HM&imgurl=http://i00.i.aliimg.com/photo/v0/247224800/USB_to_RJ45_Lan_10_100_Ethernet.jpg&w=585&h=585&ei=QqTNTparC4WPigLe2dzhCw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=168&vpy=448&dur=8&hovh=225&hovw=225&tx=128&ty=91&sig=111285131852948415475&sqi=2&page=1&tbnh=123&tbnw=121&start=0&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:21,s:0 I am wondering if anyone has any idea how I can get this to work? I am not going to buy a wireless network adapter for the xbox, since they are spendy. I only have a short ethernet cable and since my ethernet cable for my computer already goes through the kitchen and living room for the router, I don't want to make another cable go through there just for the xbox. And does anyone know if getting a cord that plugs into the ethernet port on my computer, and it had 2 ethernet ports on it would work? My friend says the USB ethernet port should work better, but experiencing this, I am not sure. Anyone have any feedback on that? I have windows vista also, if that helps.

Answer:
Not the way to do it. You should connect it direct to the router, or if there are no spare ports, to a network switch, and then connect all machines through the switch, and connect the switch to the router.
