Help With Router & PS3 (Playstation Store)?
-
I hope I'm posting this in the right place. It's regarding my router and my PS3, but since the router seems to be the issue, I thought this was the place for it. Since December I have been using my wireless router (Belkin, Wireless G) to connect my notebook and my PS3 to the internet. Both have worked fine until last week. My notebook still works, but now my PS3 only half works. My PS3 says the signal is at 100%. It still lets me sign on, play online, chat with friends and I can even open my PS3 browser. However, it will not let me open the Playstation Store for some reason. It had let me before, but it just stopped letting me open it last week. Like I said, it lets me connect online just won't open the store. I called Sony support and they said it seemed like it was a problem with my router, she had never heard of such an issue. I unhooked my router and connected my cable modem to the back of my PS3 using the ethernet cord. Then it worked, so the problem must be in my router, yes? Anyone else had this issue? Anyone know what I can do to fix this problem? A few people have said to disable my router's firewall - did that, didn't help. Someone said to disable my security on my router's settings - did that, didn't help - and it's been letting me get into the store with my security on before.

OK. If you are consistently OK with playing online and there are no issues with other functions then it must be the way the PS3 connects to the store. Some protocols and traffic patterns are more resilient to dropped packets or connection problems. They will retry and retry in the background and be totally transparent to you. It will seem like the connection is stable but...it could be retrying communication all of the time and you not know. So, the PS3 store must use some kind of secure protocol or connection type that is not so resistant to communication errors. It is more noticeable or should I say very noticeable when communication errors occur. I would start from scratch. I would reset your wireless router to factory default settings (little button you have to press with a paperclip for 10 seconds until the lights flash like a christmas tree). Then reconnect your PS3 to it. This will rule out any remnants of security or firewalls or anything that may interfere with communications. If that does not work try downgrading , or upgrading the firmware on your PS3. If you performed a system update recently go back to the previous version (probably have to do that via thumb drive through the usb port). If you do not have the latest system software then upgrade it. My point is since it is ONLY with the PS3 store it does not necessarily mean that everything else works except for the store. Good luck. Let me know if this does not work. [email protected]
