Need help with connection problems on wireless computer?

  • PLZ HELP I will explain my situation the best I can. I have a wireless router D Link, that my sons computer was hooked up to for over a year. The computer was having connection problem issues, took it to my computer store, who has fixed issues in the past. He took out windows and reloaded it back in. Same operating system as before, Windows XP Pro He Upgraded the computer 1g of memory. Cleaned the computer out. The computer works great in his store. I bring it home, and it shows no wireless connections within range. No signal. Previous to being fixed it would show other networks like neighbours in range, but would not connect very well. Now it says no wireless networks within range. Called Cogeco internet provider - They say nothing wrong with signal in the house, it is strong. Called D Link Router Co. - They reset everything and also said nothing wrong with the router. Computer guy comes to the house, brings new router 5x faster etc, and again the computer would not hook up to the new router either. We have one main computer wired in and another wireless computer that is not having any issues. So D Link said it cannot be the router. We Briefly for a few seconds saw the router connect, and then it just vanishes. This is my 11 year old sons computer, he is lost without it. The computer is a Dell. The computer guy put a new wireless card into computer and added another antenna. He says he doesnt know what to do. Can anyone help? Thank you

  • Answer:

Plug it into by wired method to see if it works. If it does, you know your ethernet connection works, so now you need to get the wireless to work. Sure, open control panel, them system, go to hardware devices and open the one for the network adapter. If it has any Yellow exclamation mark, the hardware drivers are not installed. Before doing this, open menus, network connections and see if it shows any connections, if wireless is there, click on it to open properties and make sure it is enabled. The other thing may be the network connection has been set up to recognize his wireless system. If every thing is in place you may need to make a new network connection and delete the one it is using.
