Missing multimedia audio controller.

Ethernet Controller, Multimedia Audio Controller, and SM Bus Controller Drivers?

  • I have had problems with my HP Pavilion a220n running Windows XP Home. So I formatted the hard drive and installed XP Home (I couldn't find and of the CD's from when I bought it, so I used an extra one lying around). Everything was fine except for when I connected a cable into the Ethernet port in the back, it didn't detect it and I cannot connect to the internet. And in the Device Manager there is a section called Other Devices and listed in it are the Ethernet Controller, Multimedia Audio Controller, and SM Bus Controller. I found the link that lists the info on my computer below and then found the driver to the listed motherboard and downloaded the driver and installed it but yet nothing changed, those three devices were still listed under Other Devices with yellow question marks next to them. Anyone know how to fix this problem? http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=120&prodSeriesId=326410&prodTypeId=12454&prodSeriesId=326410&objectID=c00026106

  • Answer:

doesnt HP have a built in utilities section under F11 during boot? Give that a try, I think theres an option to find and install drivers. Failing that, when you got to the bit with the exclmation marks, did you right click on them and select update drivers?
