Internet keeps going out on me, repair connection only works temporarily, what do I do?
-
Just recently my internet connection has been unstable. It goes out frequently and repairing the connection temporarily fixes it for about a minute, then it's out again. I'm connected through a wired connection, so wireless has nothing to do with it. My brother, who's also has a wired connection, is not having this problem. I have noticed that the connection normally re-establishes when the connection repair tool tells me that it's clearing NetBT. Don't know if this is relevant, though.

Answer:
A couple of things for you to try: 1) try running malwarebytes and see if you have picked up a trojan or hijackware of some kind. 2) Run your antivirus for the same reasons. 3) Try changing the nic cable. It may have become bent too many times, which can result in internal wire breakage. 4) Believe it or not, the longer the nic wire, the better the chance for packet (meaning the data sent back and forth from the servers you are accessing to your computer) to become lost or corrupted. if you are used a long nic cable, try moving your computer closer to the router and using a shorter cable. 5) This may sound bad, but it is quite common. If you are using a built in nic card (built into the motherboard of your computer) this can be a sign that the built in nic card is going bad. try replacing it with an after market card which are relatively cheap. 6) same goes if it is an after market card. There are exactly 3 millions possible causes: your ISP, DNS, your router, your NIC card, your antivirus, your firewall, your viruses, your Config, your dog, and lastly the devil himself. So in order to point out which is it do a test on each. Honestly I do not test my ISP, because I know they suck. To rule out DNS problem just change your DNS to one of the many available free DNS services(OpneDNS, Comodo DNS...). For the router, open the management page and check all the configuration and the performance if available. I do not know how to test a NIC card. For antivirus and firewall just de-activate and activate them to see if it is their fault. Usually connection problem are not related to config, unless you recently messed around with your windows/mac/or linux. To test your dog, unplug it from the network. If it is the devil, there is nothing you can do about it!
