Xbox 360 with networking issues, I need help...?
-
I have a Premium Xbox 60GB connected via Ethernet cable to my Toshiba Satellite A500, which has a network bridge running into my RealTek RTL8191SE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC which is connected to a Thomson TG585v8 router which runs through a Gateway of some description to the Irish ISP service Imagine WiMax. Both the Xbox and the PC are using static IP addresses (192.168.15.10 and 192.168.15.11), running through the same DNS Servers (Primary: 208.67.222.222, Secondary: 208.67.220.220) which I use only because an online forum made this suggestion. The Xbox works and can connect to the Xbox Live but I am less than satisfied with it. Almost every time signing into Live, it encounters an error. Running Network Diagnostics returns the same thing every time, that my DNS server cannot resolve Xbox Live server names. It suggests I restart my router, I say I did even though I didn't and it finally works although with a Moderate NAT. On top of that, the system has a happy knack of disconnecting randomly with no warning that requires another sign-in debacle. This happens far too regularly! Now I set static IPs which dealt with an earlier problem of IP conflicts, but having to run a test every time I'd like to sign in is a pain. Network bridges usually shouldn't be a problem because I know mates who have this set-up and I've had my Internet Service Provider open all sorts of ports trying to fix the NAT issue! I don't know if the issue is the result of a firewall (I use Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Firewall as well as whatever my router has) or something else. I don't believe it's the wireless either as my laptop which is left running still has full access to the internet and I'd notice a sudden drop in connectivity. I have reason to believe it may be my router but I have no access to it thanks to Imagine's security policy: I'd have to phone them and ask them to do something for me. It may even be the ISP itself.. I'm not sure! I've tried so many things, looked up so much trying to get my Xbox to network at an optimal level and I can't.. I hope I didn't leave a detail. If someone knows how to make exceptions for the xbox on firewalls, ports to re-open (Imagine aren't terribly reliable) or where this issue is arising, please help! It's become so frustrating and I'm convinced solving this will go some way to fixing the horrible lag issues too. Thanks a ton in advance.

Answer:
Remove the DNS server IPs. You don't need them.
