What and how Do wireless Printer Work?

I have a WiFi-enabled DSL modem & a wireless printer, but no WiFi ability on my PC. How do I make it all work?

  • I have permission to access my office's DSL at night (I live VERY close to work, like 100 ft. from the modem), and a wireless printer. But I can't for the life of me figure out if a simple WiFi adapter for the PC will make the computer be able to "see" the modem (it's WiFi enabled & the signal reaches over here -- my phone can see it) and the printer. Or do I need a router AND a wireless adapter? Or just a router hooked to the computer via an Ethernet cable? Or do I need some other configuration of contraptions that I'm not even aware of at this point? I'll appreciate any answer, or even links to a site that explains how all this works.

Yes. All you need is a wifi adapter connected to your PC. You can choose either a plug-in wifi card or a USB wifi adapter. Either way, it has to have a replaceable antenna so you can use a directional antenna to focus the signal to the modem/router. Don't get those that have internal antennas as your distance from the modem is a bit far. There may be some signal fluctuations and you'll not get a constant connection.
