What's fibre?

Fibre op vs T1 internet. Whats the difference between both?

  • Whats the difference between both in terms of reliability and speed?

  • Answer:

t1 is a standard that remains the same speed no matter what. T1 is DS1 which is a standard of connectivity delivering a constant 1.544Mbs. Fiber delivers its data by light pulses but fiber is not a "communications standard" it is a medium like copper. there ARE fibre standards but theyre often overlooked as the competition to deliver faster fiber services continues to escalate between providers. Fiber supports speeds in the hundreds of GIGABYTES per second range but often providers deliver around 15mbps to their residential fiber customers. T1 is, was, and is only 1.544mbs. DS3 is 45mbps. DS# was originally considered the upgrade from T1 but is only in use now in large business offices.

Technically, T1 Comes through Copper cables, so it is slower of the electricity. Fibre optic uses Glass with pulses of light, which (everyone knows) Light is faster than electric so, Fibre optic is faster

fibre is about 1000 times faster and the faster your net is the more reliable it is but fibre optic cable is alot more expencive and is pretty rare in most areas but wont be long untill everyone has it fibre optic can transfer data at approx 1gbps while t1 is usually approx 1mbps
