Can you get an out of office reply on a mobile phone?

2 Miles away from a Central Office... but different Phone/DSL company. Can I still get DSL through them?

  • I live 2 miles away from a Central Office for (Verizon DSL). I have been trying to get DSL for 6 years now. I used to have AT&T telephone service... but they said they cannot service my area for DSL because I live too far away from THEIR Central Office. But I have a Verizon DSL Central Office less than 2 miles away.. can they provide me with service even though I have AT&T lines? Do phone companies own people's lines? Or are the telephone lines open to all competitors?

    Most line are open to competitors plus the fact companies like Verizon can use things simular to routers to pick your service up. I think you should be able to get Verizon DSl

Almost all phone lines are owned by verizon if you live on the east coast. Regardless of who provide your phone service the line is owned by verizon in the before mentioned market. If you live in the south or west coast At&t might owned those lines. However, verizon and other providers usually rent those lines in order to provide service to their subscribers. Therefore, verizon is able to provide you with DSL regardless of who owns the phone lines. enjoy your computer.

The lines go to an AT&T office that's too far from you for DSL service. It doesn't matter who your provider is - your carrier is AT&T, and they're too far from you for DSL. BTW, the phone company owns the lines up to the 'demark' (the demarcation point) - usually a box on the outside of your house - you own the lines from there in. The outside line isn't "your line", it's AT&T's line.
