Laptop computer wont connect via broadband dial up after using WiFi?
-
Ok, after taking my laptop to school to use in class I connected to their Wifi and in order to do so I had to take it to our computer lab and have a few settings changed in order to be able to connect. Once i finished i changed the settings back to what they were and got home and pluged in our DSL cable and tried to load internet explorer. It keeps showing that im trying to connect to the DSL modem but everytime i try it says a connection cannot be made. I diagnose the problem and it says no problem can be found, my laptop still works when i take it to school and use their WiFi as well. My parents have plugged in their laptop to our DSL modem and theirs works fine so its not the modem. Please help! Thanks!!!

Answer:
Check the ethernet settings on your laptop, specifically the isp address for your computer, most likely the issue is there. For additional consideration: If you are using a router, behind your dsl modem, check the router and see if MAC addresses for all internet accessing devices at your home can be identified and consider settting up all device Mac addresses. This should help for future connection identification. Also in the router setup be certain to indicate a range for ip addresses to be used. (ie: 192.168.1.300 thru 192.168.1.349 would allocate 50 isp addresses to your household for use.

Most likely, you forgot to set all the settings back to what they were when it worked properly and completely. Put your computer sided by side with one that is online and open up all the settings to ensure they all match: right click on "Computer" or "My Computer" and make sure your computer's homegroup or workgroup are the same...etc...
Go into the Internet Properties, usually found in the control panel. Then go to the "Connections" tab. Click on "LAN Settings". Make sure the "Automatically Detect Settings" check box is checked and the "Use proxy settings for your lan" checkbox is UNCHECKED, then try again. If not, double-click on your wifi card or ethernet card (i would check both settings) in your network connections folder and click "Properties". Then highlight IPV4 TCP (or TCP/IP if you're using Windows XP) and click and "Properties" and make sure that the "Obtain IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server automatically" are both bubbled in. Apply, OK, then try again. That should work for sure. And don't listen to "K". All that stuff he says is unnecessary and does not solve or even diagnose the problem. Also, Homegroup and/or Workgroup has nothing to do with your internet connection. That is for sharing files at home. Schools use a domain and never a Homegroup or Workgroup.
