Network Adapter Problem?
-
When I turn my laptop on, or close laptop lid and flip lid back up my network adapter wont connect to my internet, and when I try to do it manualy It says it cant connect. So I do the troubleshooter and it basically resets the network adapter and its fixed until I turn on laptop again or close laptop lid. Now it pretty much does this about 80% of the time. I have updated the Network adapter and same problem, then I disabled/re-enabled Network adapter and still same problem. Then I got Ubuntu 10.04(Linux) and I never had a problem, in fact I noticed it connects faster, but I got rid Ubuntu after 3 weeks due to the fact that when I close my Laptop lid it fails to start up again and my laptop would get really warm.So when I got back to windows I decided to uninstall and reinstall my Network adapter and it seemed to work perfectly for about a week, but now it is back to same old way even when I Uninstall and reinstall network adapter.Any ideas?

Answer:
I'm not sure which version of Windows you're using, however, you should check the power settings for the NIC in device manager. It sounds to me like perhaps when shutting the lid of the laptop, it is powering off the NIC. To access Device Manager, log in an admin account and right click My Computer, and select Manage. From there, select Device Manager (or you can access it through Control Panel). In Device Manager, expand the "Network Adapters" section, and find your NIC. Right click it, select Properties. Find the Power Management tab, and uncheck any settings that allow the computer to turn off the NIC. EDIT: Make sure you are checking power settings for the Wireless card, and not just the plain network card. It would help to know the model of the laptop and wireless adapter, too. If you are using a connection manager (i.e Windows, or Intel's wireless connection software) check the settings of that program to make sure it isn't using any power saving features of the NIC. In the power management settings in Control Panel, make sure Windows is not putting the laptop into Standby or Hibernate mode when shutting the lid, as those would interrupt your network connections. If you are using encryption on your wireless hotspot (and you should be: WPA2), please keep in mind that this could cause the wireless card to take a little bit longer to establish a wireless connection vs. having no encryption. Try those ideas out and see what you find.
